Sadness

Papa passed away last night. After a long and cruel time fighting cancer, he finally said « I have had enough ».

His last words were for the love of his life Colette. He would be relieved he is joining her at last. My sister Veronique, his grandson David were able to see him one last time. I was able to call him and tell him I love him.

We know it is a deliverance for him but we are still filled with sorrow.

  8. Hi Christine,
Very sorry to hear of your Dad’s terrible predicament and death. I hope you find some solace in knowing his suffering is over. I have been thinking of you. Also hope you will be able to get going soon, and find some distraction and consolation in sailing. Please accept our sincere condolences. I also commend your bravery and honesty in putting all this on your blog.I think it is definitely helpful to others to know that life isn’t always “smooth sailing”

    • Hi Meredith
It has not been smooth sailing, that is for sure, but it helps talking about the tough parts of life as well as sharing the good stuff. Papa is with me always.

  15. So sorry for your loss Chris. At least some of your family were actually able to get in to see him again before he passed.
There are so many times suitable for reflection in your lifestyle, I’m sure he will be with you in quiet moments and sunsets. Hopefully you and Wade can get out and enjoy some more sailing times soon.

    • Thank you so much Neville. We all had a chance to say what matters and he knew he was loved. I just wish he did not have to go through such agony. He is in a far gentler place now.

  16. Having heard the news of my mother’s passing on the same day as my middle daughter was born and on the other side of the world from me, I can relate to your loss.

    • Thanks Phil, the distance and travel impossibility with the pandemic certainly don’t help. We knew all along this would be the outcome, but it still hurts a lot.

    • Oh Jon, thank you for this lovely message. Your words are really helpful and meaningful to me. At the moment the last few months of Dad’s life dominate in my mind, but I know this raw stage will ease. You take care too.

  23. So sorry to hear this sad news, my thoughts are with you. You look a lot like your Dad Chris!

  24. I am so sad to hear the news of your Dad’s death, Chris. I know that the past few month have been especially tough on you as his physical condition has deteriorated and as quarantine restrictions have reinforced a greater sense of separation from him. I too believe that he is in a better place now. I have been attending a short church service (Compline) each weekday evening and will be sure to offer prayers for him and for your whole family this coming week.
