Spaceships in the Ocean

Our ocean holds secrets: the strangest alien forms, reminiscent of spaceships.  These gelatinous creatures are luminous, spreading waves of colour through their unpigmented body.  They are the ctenophores, or comb jellies, and are our latest discovery of the magical organisms that lurk under our hulls.

One Four Challenge – May Week 2

We are now in the second week of the May One Four Challenge, a photo processing project hosted by Robyn Gosby at Captivate Me. The image I am working on for the month is a jellyfish – the Chrysaora wurlerra, photographed in the temperate waters of Wilsons Promontory on the Victorian coast of Australia.

Bird Photography Challenge #38: Australian Gannet

Australian Gannets (Morus serrator) soaring high above the ocean then plunging headlong into the water to catch fish are a frequent sight in Southern waters. We watched them foraging during a trip to Wilsons Promontory last month, and decided to make them the feature of our #38 Bird Photography Challenge.
