One Four Challenge – Week 4

This is it, final week for our One Four Challenge, hosted by Robyn Gosby at Captivate Me. As usual it has been great fun to take part and experiment in the digital dark room.

Week 4 Process

A couple of weeks ago, Robyn generously shared with her followers some Presets she had developed in Lightroom.  For those of you who don’t know what these are, a preset is a pre-determined position for all or some of the adjustments you can make to an image. In other words, you can edit a photo to your liking, and then save that exact combination of slider positions for future use on another image. Presets save you time in the editing process and can give you creative results you might not have thought of.

So I downloaded Robyn’s handy work and tested the presets on my jellyfish!  The one that created the wow factor I was looking for was the “Soft Rain – Grain” preset.  As with any preset, you can tweaks things a little. I toned down the blues which were quite bright, upped the reds and adjusted the shadows and highlights a little.

I love the effect on the top right hand corner.  It is as if the jelly is swimming so fast it creates a wake of bubbles behind it.  And I like the sparkling of the bell and tentacles in the dark.

Time to vote!

Given it is our last week for May, I am including a slide show of the month’s progression and a poll, and invite you to vote for your favourite.

Many thanks to Robyn for hosting the Challenge and for sharing her creative flair through her Lightroom Presets.  Our next opportunity to take part in the One Four Challenge will be in August.  See you then!

  1. What a great set of edits, Chris. I really enjoyed week 2 and week 4. I voted for week 4, the bubbles and pop of the jellyfish with that great effect from Robyn plus your tweaks is a gorgeous edit. I have really enjoyed each week as you have progressed through the month.

  2. I liked them all.
However, I think that the original is slightly better than the rest.
Speaking from a strictly personal view, it feels kind of spontaneous.

Still, they are all good pictures.

  3. Chris – week 4 is stunning! Soft rain grain is kind of Matt and gritty and with your adjustments, this edit is a very different mood! I really like it. Love the bubbles on the top right and the bell. Awesome!
My favourites are the original and week 4. It’s been a wonderful subject this month. Most enjoyable 😃
