It is still really windy, up to 30 knots during the day, the swell wraps around the headlands even at anchor, and there are rainy spells, but nothing stops us: we explore ashore, snorkel and the Keppels do not fail to spin their magic.
What do you do when your reef hopping plan does not work out? Enjoy what you can, relish the sailing, the company and a comfortable boat.
We were hoping to go to the Reef as soon as our friend Phil arrived but things never go to plan!
After days at anchor fixing things, we needed a nice cruisy sail to remind us we have made the right decision in buying Anui. Despite the amount of maintenance which at times leaves us deflated, once we raise anchor and sail her, we beam from ear to ear and all woes are forgotten.
We are still at Fraser Island enjoying regular walks and bird watching, in between frequent downpours, which means… wait for it…. more dribbles!
We missed it so much: feeling the wind in our sails and our speed through the ocean. Sailing to Fraser Island has been fun, even if the weather to get there has been capricious: rain, swell, strong wind… That was the downside, but even in these conditions we were in such a state of withdrawal after weeks of inactivity that we enjoyed the sailing and the freedom.
Anui is sailing again, after being out of action for weeks. We left the marina like a sling shot – free at last!
