Favourite photos from the Swain Reefs

Anui is back inshore after spending 18 brilliant days at the Swain Reefs. We have been going through the many photos we took, to share our favourites with you before our full cruise story is ready.

We live a life of curiosity, joyful discovery and adventure and this last voyage to the Swain Reefs was another perfect example of this.

Out of the hundreds of photos we took of seascapes, underwater scenes and aerials it is really hard to choose the ones that delight us most and capture the essence of that trip. We have distilled it down to 18 images, one for each day we were in this remote wilderness. Do click on each one to see the captions.

We are now in the Southern Whitsunday Islands, boat bound, hiding from persistent and strong winds. It is quite odd to be back, a little bit sad and quite slow. We so enjoy being active and in remote areas that it is always a shock to the system to return to the more ordinary cruising life! But while we are stuck on board, it is an opportunity to put the finishing touches to our full Swain Reefs 2024 Cruise Story. This will soon be ready for publication.

And of course, a good way to brighten up our days is to plot our next big offshore adventure. As Roobi has other commitments, we need to secure a different buddy boat. We are hoping we have found our new companions and will tell you more about our proposed trip in a future post.

  1. Very sad we can’t carry on north bound with you for more adventures…. it was fabulous spending time with you both.

Look forward to more beautiful photos from you ❤️

  2. Great selection of photos Chris. It’s always difficult selecting just a few photos to capture a great time out of so many, but you have selected ones that do capture your Swains adventure well, highlighting your obvious enjoyment out there. Yes, sitting out this endless wind is rather restricting!

    • Thanks Amanda, first day we have got off the boat since getting back to the coast! We will hang here a little while longer then go to Mackay mid next week to replenish the supplies and meet up with our buddies!

  3. Hi Guys

The photos are lovely, the ones I like the most is of Bengie and the tern, Then the sunset with Anui, then comes the shark and the whale. Good luck finding someone else to share your next adventure.

    Take care

    Love Sue

    • Ah Bengie seems to be a favourite 😻. Did you realise the shot with Anui with the ball of light behind it is actually the full moon at dawn? And hurray we have a buddy boat meeting us next week, so the far-flung adventures will continue!

  4. Simply WOW! Love the romance of the dawn moonshot with Anui ……. so much serenity!
